Warwickshire is a beautiful county in the heart of England, and you can find plenty to see on any one of its winding walks and trails. Here are a few suggestions for walks near Stratford.

Riverside Walk
Time: 45 minutes approx

Take the river in your stride. This easy 2.4 km walk takes about 42 minutes and follows the river Avon as it passes a number of points of interest including Shakespeare’s birthplace and Anne Hathaway’s cottage. It’s popular with walkers and birdwatchers but allows peace and quiet at less-crowded times of day.

Dogs are welcome but may need be kept on leads in some areas.

Upper Quinton Circular Walk
Time: 6 hours approx.

A refreshing ramble. A more challenging 21.1km trail with plenty of wildlife to see, including deer and birds, as well as farming livestock and lots of wild plants and hedgerows. It’s a circular route, but even if you don’t make it all the way round, you can reward yourself with a pint at any one of the local pubs you’ll find along the way.

The Bell & Two Churches
Time: 1.5 hours approx.

For a divine day. A popular route with runners and walkers that delivers what it promises for everyone who chooses this 5km trail. Starting at The Bell pub in Alderminster, before taking in both St Mary’s and St Mary’s and the Holy Cross, two beautiful parish churches, before returning for a welcome refresher where it all began.

The Welcombe Park Circuit
Time: 1 hour approx.

A walk in the park. Considered an easy walk but well worth the trip, the circuit covers the perimeter of the Welcombe Hills Country Park, and offers great views of Stratford and the surrounding countryside. As usual, dogs will need to be on a lead where livestock is present.

Time: 1.5 hours approx.

This charming loop around the village of Clifford Chambers takes you through scenic Warwickshire countryside, combining quiet lanes, riverside paths and open fields. Ideal for a half-day break, it’s accessible and rewarding, perfect for stretching your legs between relaxations at The Stratford.

Set near the River Avon, this circular walk around Hampton Lucy offers a pleasant mix of village character, open farmland and riverside views. It’s a bit more adventurous but still well within reach for most walkers staying at the hotel - great for a longer afternoon out in the Warwickshire countryside.
